Forecasting Parameter Summary

In this review of the placement of Tornado Watch #110, we have examined several of the tools available to forecasters at the SPC. The chart below shows that although the convective indicators were only in the moderate range, the parameters for the development of classic supercells and significant tornadoes over south central Oklahoma were consistently favorable in the hours preceding the Watch.

Parameter Significance Unfavorable Moderate Favorable
CAPE Convective Potential   X
Lifted Index Convective Potential   X
0-6 km Shear Supercell Development     X
9-11 km Storm Relative Winds Classic Supercells     X
Supercell Composite Parameter Surface-Based Supercells     X
Significant Hail Parameter Hail > 2" X
LCL Height Tornado Formation     X
0-1 km Storm Relative Helicity Tornado Formation     X
0-1 km Shear Vector Tornado Formation     X
Significant Tornado Parameter > F2 Tornado Formation     X
